Position
A player stationed between the midfield and the striker, focused on unlocking defences.
The number 10 is the traditional CAM role: a creative playmaker who receives between the lines, turns and sets up shots.
Modern CAMs blur with wingers: many teams use a 4-2-3-1 with a free number 10 who drifts between channels, or a 4-3-3 with a very attacking 8 playing a similar role.
Successful CAMs are press-resistant, comfortable on a half-turn and able to pick the weight and direction of a pass under pressure.

Wing-back (LWB / RWB)
A full-back in a back-three system who provides width on both sides of the pitch, end to end.
Defensive midfielder (CDM)
A midfielder positioned just in front of the back four, tasked with breaking up play and recycling possession.
Central midfielder (CM)
A midfielder playing between the defensive and attacking thirds, balancing creation and recovery.
